Salbutamol Tablets

The third-most common formula patients buy salbutamol in is tablets. It's an interesting combination; a fast-acting bronchodilator in a relatively slow-acting tablet. While inhalers or nebulizers start producing results within 5 minutes, tablets begin working after about 15 minutes and it may take up to an hour for maximum benefit, so they're not ideal as a rescue treatment. In other cases, however, they're generally a bit more potent and effects may last longer.

Treatment typically consists of:

• Start with 2 mg or 4 mg taken three or four times per day.
• If results are insufficient or breathing impairment severe, dosage may be increased to 8 mg three or four times per day.
• Do not exceed 32 mg in a single day (8 mg X 4 times).
• Effects are more powerful if taken on an empty stomach.

If taking the maximum dosage---8 mg four times per day---using rescue inhalers is somewhat dangerous, especially if they also contain salbutamol. At lower doses rescue inhaler use a few times per day will most likely not be harmful.

Salbutamol Oral Solution

The majority of patients buy salbutamol oral solution for very young children or others who are reluctant or unable to use other forms of the medication. This formulation sees a lot of use in veterinary medicine as well.

Treatment is similar to tablets:

• Start with 2 mg (1 teaspoon) or 4 mg (2 teaspoons) taken three or four times per day.

Again use of rescue inhalers should be done with extreme caution when taking the maximum dosage.
